Ben Seghir’s move from Monaco to Bayer Leverkusen was completed during the final days of the transfer window. It was a move that came amid a contract standoff with his formative club, with the Morocco international keen on a new challenge.

However, Chelsea almost scuppered the forward’s move to the Bundesliga giants. With the move to Germany nearing completion, the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League champions made an approach. Ben Seghir took the time to consider their approach, weighing up the pros and cons. At one point, he even considered responding favourably to Chelsea’s approach. However, Ben Seghir then opted against a change of heart, signing for Bayer Leverkusen, as planned.
