Eliezer Mayenda completes Stade Rennais switch as Sunderland confirm exit | OneFootball

Sunderland have confirmed striker Eliezer Mayenda has joined Stade Rennais on a five-year contract. The club said in a statement that they thanked him for his contribution and wished him well.

The 21-year-old’s transfer fee could reach around £22 million if all add-ons are triggered.

Mayenda expressed delight at the move, describing himself as a complete forward who likes to run in behind, dribble and take on defenders. He looked forward to playing at Roazhon Park, linking up with team-mates and experiencing what he sees as an underrated Ligue 1.

Sporting director Loic Desire cited his speed and ability to play wide or through the middle as key factors. He pointed to experience across leagues and countries, confidence he will settle in the squad and an exemplary mentality.

CEO Arnaud Pouille highlighted strong competition for his signature and his determination to join. He welcomed the player and his family and wished him a smooth transition so he can bring his qualities to the team.

In a farewell Instagram message, Mayenda thanked chairman Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, team-mates, staff and fans, and reflected on three years at the club. He referenced Wembley and a return to the Premier League, will carry the nickname 'Big Man' with him, and signed off, 'Ha'way the Lads'.
