According to L'Équipe, Rennes are waiting for €22 million signing Eliezer Mayenda to make his mark, with Franck Haise currently preferring him as a wide option rather than through the middle.

The central role remains Estéban Lepaul's domain, and Haise has six alternatives on the flanks, limiting Mayenda's immediate route into the side.

Cresswell impressed in the 2-2 draw with PSG last Sunday, but Mayenda stayed on the bench. In a 4-3-3, Haise turned to Arnaud Nordin and Ludovic Blas out wide for Issa Soumaré and Mousa Al-Tamari, while Lepaul finished the match.

Mayenda and Charlie Cresswell joined Rennes’s €20 million-plus bracket this summer, taking the tally to nine alongside names such as Seko Fofana, Jérémy Doku, Raphinha and Amine Gouiri.

Mayenda featured in pre-season during a 3-1 win over Guingamp. For now, his opportunities appear likeliest on the flanks amid heavy competition.
