Eliezer Mayenda’s proposed move to Porto has been played down in Portugal, with O Jogo stating the 21-year-old is not on the club’s recruitment list. A Bola and Record add that Porto have not opened talks with Sunderland and that the forward is not among their current attacking targets.

Reports earlier this week had claimed advanced negotiations, but those suggestions were swiftly countered by the trio of outlets. Sunderland Echo understands the player wants regular football.

Mayenda’s situation remains one to watch this summer, although the Porto link looks to have lost momentum. Rennes have also been credited with an interest.

Sunderland are in a strong position because Mayenda is under contract until 2030, so there is no pressure to accept a cut-price fee if serious bids arrive.

The striker joined from Sochaux and has shown promise on Wearside, while his ability to operate across the front line is another asset.
