According to Leeds Live, Thursday, 8 January could be a pivotal day for Leeds United, with the City Plans Panel set to consider amended Elland Road expansion proposals and hold a vote on approval.

The club are seeking to enlarge the West Stand in phase one and the North Stand in phase two, taking capacity to 53,000. A formal application was submitted last July, with a decision initially anticipated by October.

Highways authorities requested transport revisions, prompting further work between council and club. Last month the council’s highways department backed the updated plans, and planning officers have recommended approval, full consent for phase one and outline consent for phase two.

The club has set out a major Section 106 agreement to fund highways upgrades around Elland Road and across the city, alongside a sustainable, dynamic travel plan to ease matchday transport and parking.

In October, chief business officer Morrie Eisenberg detailed proposals including a full-time travel planning co-ordinator, pre-match closure of the road off Elland Road and expanded no-drop-off zones. The aim is to cut match-goer car use from 65% to 51% by the end of phase two.

Visiting supporters are set to remain in the West Stand after backlash to a possible switch, with the South Stand to stay home-only following consultation with supporter groups, the Supporter Advisory Board, safety bodies, the Premier League and project advisers. The meeting starts at 1.30pm at the Civic Hall.
