Manchester United appear to have determined who their transfer priority is as they look to sign a new midfielder in either January or next summer.

While Casemiro has enjoyed an impressive revival this season, the fact that he is nearing a suspension reminds Man United of the need for additional reinforcements.

Aside from the Brazilian, the only other central midfielders at manager Ruben Amorim’s disposal are Bruno Fernandes, Manuel Ugarte, and Kobbie Mainoo.

Fortunately, it seems that the club is aware of the need for fresh legs, with United already approaching several viable transfer targets.

Entering the transfer market

Brighton star Carlos Baleba has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, particularly after United made contact with him over the summer.

Still, his hefty price tag has discouraged United from making a move, although their interest in the Cameroonian seems to persist.

Adam Wharton has also been linked to United, although it seems that one candidate has surged above the rest, according to a new report.

All eyes on Elliot Anderson

Anderson, who has been pivotal for Nottingham Forest this season, appears to be the frontrunner in the race to become United’s next midfield arrival.

The Peoples Person relayed that Anderson is willing to snub interest from Liverpool in favour of a move to Old Trafford, thereby signalling his interest in United.

Furthermore, United legends Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt have called on the club to sign Anderson, showing just how much he is appreciated in the club’s circles.

Now, it seems that the club itself is reciprocal in its admiration for Anderson.

“Manchester United ‘would love’ to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson next year amid his breakout campaign for club and country, journalist Andy Mitten has revealed,” GIVEMESPORT explained this morning.

On the latest episode of the Talk of the Devils podcast, Mitten explained: “I mentioned Elliot Anderson a few weeks ago — absolutely, Manchester United would love to sign him. It’s obvious, and he’s exactly the type of player Manchester United want.”

While Forest has struggled this season, Anderson has been a revelation for his club thanks to his impressive individual performance.

Hopefully, if United deem him suitable for their lineup, the club will pursue a deal as soon as possible before other interested parties hijack the potential transfer.
