Elliot Anderson is edging closer to a British record transfer to Manchester City, with further talks between the two clubs expected in the next 24 hours, as per a new report.
Anderson has been Manchester City‘s leading transfer target throughout the early stages of the summer window, with the Blues identifying the 23-year-old as the cornerstone of incoming manager Enzo Maresca‘s midfield rebuild at the Etihad Stadium.
City have already submitted two bids for the England international, which were promptly rejected by Nottingham Forest, with the City Ground club standing their ground over an expectation of an up-front £110 million payment.
Man City and Nottingham Forest ‘very close’ to full Elliot Anderson agreement, confirms Fabrizio Romano
According to Mail Sport’s Tom Collomosse, Anderson is now edging closer to completing the move to the Etihad Stadium, with talks between the two clubs set to continue imminently.
It has been mentioned that Forest have been holding out for a total package worth close to £130 million for the England midfielder – a figure that, if met, would represent a new British transfer record.
Anderson himself is understood to hold a preference to move to Manchester City over other interested parties, including Manchester United, who had also been monitoring his situation before stepping back from the pursuit.
A move at close to the figure Forest are demanding would surpass the existing British transfer record and underline the scale of City’s ambition in rebuilding their squad around Hugo Viana‘s vision for the post-Guardiola era.
Anderson offers the kind of dynamic, box-to-box profile that maps closely to the gap left by the departure of club captain Bernardo Silva, with his range of passing, carrying ability and physical presence from midfield making him an ideal fit for the system Maresca is expected to implement.
England manager Thomas Tuchel has also confirmed he will permit squad members to undergo medicals for club transfers during the FIFA World Cup, removing a potential logistical obstacle given Anderson is part of the England squad in North America.
