Nottingham Forest and Manchester City could resume talks over Elliot Anderson within 24 hours, and if those discussions progress a deal could be completed, according to the Daily Mail.
Forest have already rejected two City bids, the latest reportedly comprising £106m up front and £15m in add-ons.
The club value Anderson at £130m, and a sale at that figure would set a British transfer record, surpassing the £125m Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak last year.
Speaking on England duty, Anderson said he was concentrating on the World Cup and shutting out speculation to give himself the best chance to perform.
The 23-year-old kept his place for the second group game on Tuesday, playing 74 minutes as Thomas Tuchel’s side drew 0-0 with Ghana in Boston.
In the opener he assisted Jude Bellingham for England’s third in a 4-2 win over Croatia, following an impressive season at the City Ground.
Forest signed Anderson from Newcastle United for £35m two years ago, and since then he has become one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders.
Forest are said to have identified Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall as a potential replacement, and the 20-year-old has reportedly signalled a wish to move elsewhere this summer due to limited game time.
