Elliot Anderson could be at the centre of a summer tug-of-war. Manchester City are considered favourites for the Nottingham Forest midfielder, with Manchester United still in the frame, and head coach Vitor Pereira wants to keep him but has offered no guarantees.

According to TEAMtalk, City are continuing to push to sign Anderson while United remain in contact, and personal terms with City have been agreed in principle.

Pep Guardiola’s exit is not expected to affect City’s pursuit, with Enzo Maresca in line to take the job. Reports have suggested Anderson prefers a move to the Etihad over Old Trafford.

City are said to want a deal wrapped up before the World Cup begins on June 11. talkSPORT reports a valuation gulf after verbal talks, with Forest seeking upwards of £100m and City closer to £80m, and neither Manchester club yet quoted a price.

Forest know a strong World Cup would only bolster Anderson’s value, and owner Evangelos Marinakis is said to be ready to oversee any exit talks if required.

After Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, Pereira said Anderson is a talent who deserves the best clubs, stressed he is happy with the player, and added the market is unpredictable as he aims to keep his core and add two or three signings to balance the squad.
