As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Ellyes Skhiri will undergo a medical at Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of a free transfer from FC Köln.

Once the Tunisian international passes the medical check, it is understood that he will sign a three-year deal with Die Adler, with the option of an extra year. It will finally end the speculation over Skhiri’s future after his contract expired with the Billy Goats this summer.

Since the 28-year-old arrived at Köln in 2019 for a fee of €6m, he has been one of the Bundesliga’s best defensive midfielders. Consequently, this has led to him garnering interest from many top European clubs, however, after four years with Die Geißböcke it will be Frankfurt that Skhiri calls home.

Last season, Skhiri featured 40 times for the Billy Goats where he scored eight goals and recorded one assist. He would also appear in all three of Tunisia’s group games at the World Cup, including their impressive 1-0 victory over eventual runners-up France.

The new Frankfurt head coach of Dino Toppmöller has been key in getting this deal over the line, having convinced Skhiri over the project at the club. The signing of the 28-year-old will be Die Adler’s seventh signing of the summer as they look to build upon an impressive last two campaigns and establish themselves as a top club in Germany.
