The transfer window has only just shut, however, Chelsea are already anticipating next summer’s transfer window. As confirmed on Friday, Emanuel Emegha (22) will join the club next summer from partner club RC Strasbourg Alsace.
The Dutchman, named Strasbourg captain over the summer following the departure of Habib Diarra, is now a central figure for Les Alsaciens. The 22-year-old has already logged 26 goals and five assists in 64 outings for Strasbourg. He has hit the ground running since the start of the season with three goals in four games.
He will remain with Le Racing for the rest of the campaign, looking to help RCSA push on both in Ligue 1 and in the UEFA Europa Conference League. In a video published on Strasbourg’s socials, Emegha has sought to reassure fans of his continued commitment, despite the confirmation of his upcoming move to Chelsea.
“Strasbourg gave me the opportunity to develop and to get to the level where I am today and I am not finished developing or growing, and I am really grateful to the club and the supporters for everything that they have done for me. I just want to focus on Strasbourg, 100% Strasbourg until the end of the season, and then I will leave,” said Emegha.
He then revealed the reason behind the timing of the announcement. “I don’t want there to be rumours or things that can distract my team or me, so I think this is the best decision to bring it out right now. Everyone knows my personality. It is not because everyone knows that I am leaving that I will change my behaviour or my work ethic. I am a guy who gives 100% every day for the team and for the club, and I will continue doing this until the end,” he said.
Emegha revealed that there was also interest from other “top European clubs that play in the Champions League,” however, after talks with RCSA, Chelsea, and owners BlueCo, it was decided that the best option for his career would be to stay at Strasbourg for another year before joining Chelsea.
