Chelsea striker Emanuel Emegha is set to remain at the club this season.

The Athletic claims the Netherlands international will be in the Blues’ squad despite speculation about his future.

Emegha moved to Stamford Bridge this summer following a previously arranged transfer from sister club Strasbourg.

The 23-year-old suffered an almost instantaneous setback as he injured his hamstring in training ahead of Chelsea’s pre-season tour.

He had previously scored in two behind-closed-doors friendlies against Bromley and Crawley Town.

While he was out injured, manager Xabi Alonso pushed for the signing of 35-year-old striker Danny Welbeck.

Nicolas Jackson has also returned to the club after a loan spell with Bayern Munich.

The arrival of both strikers put Chelsea’s total number of senior strikers at six for a season without any European football.

The club are set to listen to offers for Liam Delap and Jackson, but Emegha will battle for a place in the squad.

Fitness-related issues limited him to 18 appearances last term. He scored eight goals, showing his proficiency in front of goal.

Alonso will benefit from having Emegha in his squad, as he offers a different threat to Joao Pedro.

He will play a role for the Blues as they look to secure a return to the Champions League and compete for silverware.
