Nice-Matin reports that Emerse Faé’s strong ties with Nice could allow the Ivorian Elye Wahi, selected for the World Cup from 11 June to 19 July, to feature in the L1-L2 play-off second leg against Saint-Étienne on 29 May.
Uncertainty remains over whether World Cup call-ups can take part in the ties between Nice and Saint-Étienne, scheduled for 26 and 29 May, and Wahi is among those affected.
Since joining on loan from Frankfurt in early January, Wahi has scored five times in 14 Ligue 1 appearances. He is one of 26 players named by the Ivory Coast head coach.
Faé played 65 matches for Nice from 2009 to 2012 before being forced to retire, then began his coaching career at the club, leaving in 2021.
Any agreement would cover only the return fixture, as Wahi is suspended for the first leg because of yellow card accumulation. Nice are already set to play behind closed doors.
