Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has his eyes set on lifting more trophies with the club after leading them to success in the Europa League.
Villa defeated German outfit Freiburg 3-0 in Istanbul, ending their 30-year trophy drought. For Emery personally, it was a record fifth triumph in the competition.
“I am not feeling like the king in this competition,” the Spaniard answered on his record in the Europa League. “I am feeling really thankful. We are the kings together.
“The ambitions of the club are very important,” continued Emery. “Of course my dream when I arrived here was to play in Europe, to win trophies. This is the first one we are having.
“The experiences we are having, like today, are very important for how we can get better.
“Achieving this makes us so, so happy so, so proud. But we are not going to stop.
“We are enjoying each moment and we are working hard to improve. To get this trophy is one strong step forward.”
“We will play next year the Champions League with the best teams in the world. We are going to enjoy it like we did in the Europa League this year.”
After goals from Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendia and Morgan Rogers, Villa appeared to be cruising for large parts of the second half. However, Emery rejected any suggestions that the final was easy for his side.
He insisted: “To win is very difficult and to play well in a final is very difficult.
“Freiburg deserved to be here. They are a very intense team and a good team with a good coach. You have to respect the competition in Europe because it is very, very difficult.
“To win a title and play the final is very, very difficult. If teams are here it is because they deserve it.”
