It may only be seven months into Emma Lawton’s Celtic career, but it has a very impressive campaign for the 23-year-old.
Signing on deadline day back in September, the full-back hit the ground running as a Hoops player and has continued to go from strength to strength.
Her performances saw the Celtic player recognised at Sunday evening’s PFA Player of the Year awards, with the defender taking home the top award as voted by her fellow SWPL players.
Speaking to the media, Lawton reflected on what has been a dream first season with the Hoops.
She said: “I think it’s a very special award. It kind of concludes my season quite nicely with how well it has gone for me.
“Getting the PFA award was really special, particularly as it’s players within the league voting for you.
‘So to get that kind of recognition from the league, it’s a really proud moment for me personally.’
“I’m kind of one of these players who doesn’t usually like an off-season because I just want to play, but I think I will enjoy my time off at the end of the season and it will give me a chance to reflect with my friends and family.
“Then I’ll be able to appreciate what I have done this season - signing for Celtic, I couldn’t have imagined how it would have gone.
“It’s definitely going to be nice reflect back on it.”
With three games remaining in the 2024/25 season, the Hoops are now officially out of the title race.
However, in these remaining fixtures, there are still points to play for as Elena Sadiku and her squad look to round off another historic season in a positive manner.
As the Ghirls get set to welcome Rangers to New Douglas Park, Lawton insists they Celts are eyeing up all three points to try and carry momentum into next campaign.
“Obviously the defeat against Glasgow City was hugely disappointing," she said. "Even if we had won that game, it still maybe would have been a stretch to win the league.
“We would have had to relied on a lot of different results but it would have still been an option.
“We’ve reflected on the disappointment of that, but we’ve got three games left to really start our next season well.
“We want to give ourselves something we can build on and create a platform for ourselves. It’s a bit disappointing, but we’ve still got games to play, and we are focused on that.
'We don’t need any motivation for Sunday or for these games. They are always big games.'
“We still want to give a good account of ourselves, and of course, it’s a game that we want to win.
“I think when it’s against your biggest rivals that is always the case, no matter what the situations are.”
