The Paris Council has authorised mayor Emmanuel Grégoire to open formal talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the Parc des Princes, including a possible sale. According to L'Équipe, the mandate was approved on Tuesday at a special sitting.

The motion passed with 106 votes out of 163, with eight against and 41 abstentions, including 51 from Paris Liberté, the Paris right.

Grégoire, successor to Anne Hidalgo, had said on 9 December he was open to transferring the Porte de Saint-Cloud stadium to the European champions. Hidalgo had opposed any sale.

The debate was sometimes tense as opposition groups tabled amendments. The adopted framework requires the 16th arrondissement mayor, Jérémy Redler of LR, to be associated with all meetings with PSG, including preparatory ones, and to receive preparatory documents from the Secrétariat Général, creating a co-delegation.

The motion also asks the mayor to set up a cross-party working group open to all Council groups, and to report back with results of talks. Any land agreements must be submitted for approval after clearance by the local land service and the City of Paris heritage council.

Figures close to Grégoire said the text included additions from Paris Apaisé, Paris Liberté and the Greens, reflecting a dialogue-led approach. Concrete talks with PSG now follow, with both sides keen to move quickly towards a decision in the autumn.
