Astonishingly, Empoli have only won a single contest thus far in 2025, when they shocked the world to eliminate Juventus from the Coppa Italia after prevailing in penalty shootouts. However, they haven’t tasted victory in Serie A since early December, which explains why they currently sit 19th in the league table, with relegation looking increasingly inevitable.
In their most recent outing, the Azzurri fell short in the Tuscan Derby against Fiorentina, suffering a 1-2 defeat. Moreover, their memorable Coppa Italia run came to an end after suffering a 1-5 defeat to Bologna on aggregate.
Lazio were beginning to build some momentum after beating Genoa and Atalanta in their most recent away fixtures. While they had settled for a 1-1 draw against arch-rivals Roma, they were clearly the better side in the Derby della Capitale.
However, in their most recent meeting, the Biancocelesti had to rally from behind to secure a 2-2 draw against Parma, which left them in 7th place. Nevertheless, Marco Baroni’s men are only two points adrift from Juventus in second place, so they remain one of the protagonists in the Champions League race.
Empoli (3-4-2-1): Vasquez; Goglichidze, Ismajli, Viti; Gyasi, Kovalenko, Anjorin, Pezzella; Fazzini, Solbakken; Esposito.
Lazio (4-2-3-1): Mandas; Marusic, Gila, Romagnoli, Pellegrini; Guendouzi, Rovella; Isaksen, Dia, Zaccagni; Castellanos.
Lazio have been finding success on the road during the second half of the season, while Empoli have been equally miserable home and away.
The Tuscans will put up a fight, but their already thin squad has been pared down to the bone by injuries. On the other hand, the Biancocelesti should have enough quality in their ranks to return to Rome with three points in the bag, even when they aren’t enjoying their most prosperous moment.
