Following their midweek defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League, FC Barcelona have turned their focus to domestic action as they prepare to face Sevilla this Sunday at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.
According to Diario AS, the Catalan side returned to training on Friday morning after a day of rest, with one particularly encouraging development: the return of midfielder Fermin Lopez to the pitch.
The 22-year-old Spaniard, who had been sidelined with an injury to his left iliopsoas muscle sustained on September 21 during the final moments of the game against Getafe, trained separately from the group as part of his recovery process. His initial recovery timeline was estimated at around three weeks.
While Fermin is unlikely to feature in Sunday’s encounter against Sevilla, the signs are positive. Hansi Flick is hopeful of having the young midfielder fully fit after the October international break, in time for the league fixture against Girona on October 18.
Fermin’s return would certainly be a welcome boost for Hansi Flick and Barcelona, as the youngster has been playing at a very high level since last season. Hopefully, he will return to his best level soon after having suffered this minor blip.
This development comes at a pivotal moment for La Blaugrana. Having moved ahead of Real Madrid in the La Liga standings following their victory over Real Sociedad and Madrid’s defeat to Atletico in the recent derby, Flick’s side will aim to maintain their momentum and deliver a strong response after the disappointment against PSG.
