End of an FA Cup run NOT end of the World

Article image:End of an FA Cup run NOT end of the World

A message for the Newcastle United fans.

It is the end of our FA Cup run but NOT the end of the World.

The way some of you are going on is pitiful.

Yes, it was a day when everything seemed to go against us.

However, Sunday was just one day in a very long season and nobody should be writing Eddie Howe and his players off just yet, least of all the Newcastle United fans.

We lost an FA Cup last 16 match in a game where two evenly matched sides were playing each other and it could have gone either way.

It wasn’t to be our day.

Things started badly when Lewis Hall was missing from the matchday squad and reports he is seeing a specialist to check out an ankle issue, hopefully to rule out anything serious.

Whilst the Anthony Gordon red card was another tough punch to take, with seemingly little chance of any appeal against it being successful. He is set to miss the next three matches, including the Cup final. However, that is not the end of the season and nor is it indeed the end of our hopes at Wembley.

If you really think Newcastle United have zero chance at Wembley, then I think you should be handing your cup final ticket to somebody else.

There is also the small matter of with 11 Premier League matches to go, Newcastle United only two points off Champions League qualification (fifth place all but certain to supply this) and only four points off third.

It is all to play for in both league AND cup.

Ahead of this past weekend, Eddie Howe had been asked if Newcastle United were a one man team, after Alexander Isak missed the Liverpool match in midweek.

The answer is of course, no. Just as it is a case of Anthony Gordon not being the one man we rely on.

Newcastle United haven’t won 21 matches already this season due to relying on one, or even two or three players.

Just like the players will be doing, as Newcastle United fans we may have to now go away and lick our wounds.

However, it is then a case of in a week’s time making sure we are all prepared to help and get the three points at West Ham, then return to London for that Wembley weekend and all of us give it everything. Rather than walking around with placards declaring ‘The end is nigh’…
