Real Madrid allowed teenage striker Endrick to leave the club recently, with the youngster joining Olympique Lyon on loan until the end of the season.

The Brazilian international had been struggling for minutes since his return from injury back in September, with manager Xabi Alonso hardly calling on him.

As such, the decision was made for Endrick to move to the Ligue 1 club in search of regular minutes so that he can continue his development while also push for a spot in the Brazil squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 19-year-old, who has already been training with his team for over a week, was presented to the media by Lyon earlier today, and he had some interesting things to say during the interaction.

On joining Lyon

Regarding his decision to join Lyon and what made him choose the Ligue 1 club, Endrick explained: “It was an important moment for me when Lyon contacted me to come here. It was an important moment for me, for my wife and for my family.

“Fred, my manager, spoke to me and we said that it was important to come here. It was important to play. When God speaks to me, He shows me a path to follow. My head and my heart are here in Lyon.

“I will work hard to help this team. I thank God and the directors of Lyon, also the staff, for the effort.”

On the fanfare and excitement his signing generated at the club, the youngster remarked:

“It was very nice to see all the excitement that was generated and all the supporters who travelled so that I could sign shirts for them. It touches my heart.

“It is important for me, because my arrival at Lyon will mean that in Brazil there will be more visibility for the club and for Ligue 1.

“There will be more young people who will look at what happens in France. It is truly important also to talk with the supporters and for this enthusiasm to be created.”

Endrick also touched upon his last six months at Real Madrid, during which he barely played, but was positive about the whole situation, saying:

“They were the six best months of my life. I had time with my wife. I had time to build my house. Without these things, without the new house, without the family, I am nothing. Right now I am better.

“Right now I am a mature person and a better person. Now I am focused on my work. I thank God, and all the people who have been on my path. I repeat it. These six months were the best of my life.”

He also spoke about the move to Lyon and how it was discussed in the Real Madrid locker room, revealing:

“I continued working on the pitch and to help Real Madrid. Yes, the rumour came out in the press and all my teammates came to ask me if I was leaving or not. We laughed about it. I spoke with some of them about what came out in the press.”

Endrick then revealed that he had spoken with former Real Madrid boss and current Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who gave his blessings to the loan move.

“Yes, I spoke with Carlo Ancelotti and he gave me instructions to improve as a player. His advice reached my heart. He told me: ‘Go, develop your football, I want you to be happy.’ But I took my decision earlier even though his advice was important.

“Ancelotti has been a great coach with Real Madrid. I followed all his advice and he helped me to develop my football. Now, I must work to play and help Lyon to win.”

Finally, outlining his objective with regard to the Brazil national team, Endrick said:

“My personal objective is to help Lyon. I want to play and help Lyon to win titles. Also to finish as well as possible in Ligue 1. Regarding the national team, everyone dreams of playing with them. Thank God, I have been able to make my debut and score goals.

“It is true that recently I have not been able to be called up. I will do everything possible to wear the Brazil shirt again.”
