Fresh from spending Christmas in Switzerland with his wife, Endrick has quickly bedded into Lyon after arriving a little over a week ago. As reported by L'Équipe, the Brazilian striker has begun life as the club’s new number nine with early training sessions and his living arrangements sorted.
The 29th Brazilian to represent Olympique Lyonnais was guided around the city by Isabelle Dias, the long-serving staff liaison who also interprets. A club video on 1 January, the official start date of his spell, showed him greeting staff and trying a few words in French.
He has signed a lease on a house where he will live with his wife, Gabriely, a 23-year-old model, and their two dogs until June, the end of his loan from Real Madrid. He joked that if his wife is happy, he is happy. The pair married in July.
Although the move was announced on 23 December, he joined later, beginning work in the gym away from view before training with team-mates on Thursday. Around 20 supporters waited outside the centre after Friday’s session, and he said at Monday’s press conference that the welcome warmed him.
Technical director Matthieu Louis-Jean praised a rapid integration, describing Endrick as humble, enthusiastic and keen to do well.
His French is a work in progress, but he speaks English and can communicate easily with Paulo Fonseca’s Lusophone staff, which he appreciates. He said he was even joking with team-mates, and admitted he did not fully understand why he did not feature against Monaco. Endrick set out his aims to play, win titles and help Lyon be near the top of Ligue 1.
