England dug deep to beat Norway 2-1 after extra time in the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Saturday evening.
Norway broke the deadlock in the 36th minute as Andreas Schjelderup’s attempted cross caught Jordan Pickford off guard and dropped into the top corner.
Moments later, Alexander Sorloth blazed over and Martin Odegaard stung Pickford’s palms with a powerful effort.
Jude Bellingham drew England level in first-half stoppage time. He controlled Antony Gordon’s pass brilliantly to evade his marker before picking out the far corner.
Harry Kane thought he had put England ahead on the stroke of half-time, but his strike was ruled out for offside.
Norway began the second period aggressively, dominating possession.
Norway’s Torbjorn Heggem found the net before the hour mark, but the goal was ruled out after Erling Haaland was adjudged to have committed a foul in the build-up.
Kristoffer Ajer came close to restoring Norway’s lead with a header from a corner, only to be denied by the woodwork.
At the other end, Bukayo Saka whipped a dangerous cross into the penalty area, but it evaded everyone.
Bellingham missed a golden chance to score a late winner, heading a cross wide and forcing the game into extra time.
The Real Madrid Midfielder scored the winner at the start of extra time, poking the ball home after Orjan Nyland spilled Morgan Rogers’ shot into his path.
The victory sealed England’s place in the World Cup semi-finals, where they will face the winner of the quarter-final between Argentina and Switzerland.
