England 2-3 Spain: Oyarzabal seals comeback as world champions win at Wembley | OneFootball

Spain came from behind to beat England 3-2 at Wembley in their UEFA Nations League opener, with Mikel Oyarzabal scoring the winner after Thomas Tuchel’s side had led 2-1 at half-time.

Spain winger Lamine Yamal opened the scoring inside two minutes before England winger Anthony Gordon and captain Harry Kane turned the game around. Kane then struck the crossbar from the penalty spot before Álex Baena equalised and Oyarzabal completed Spain’s comeback in the 74th minute.

Spain needed only 105 seconds to take the lead. England defender Marc Guéhi lost possession while attempting to play out from the back, allowing Yamal to race clear and finish past goalkeeper James Trafford via the inside of the post.

The visitors remained the stronger side for much of the opening half. Spain forward Ferran Torres had a goal disallowed for offside before Trafford denied him in another one-on-one, while Yamal and Dani Olmo also threatened as England struggled against Spain’s pressure.

England equalised against the run of play in the 36th minute with a direct counter-attack. England midfielder Jude Bellingham carried the ball forward before releasing Gordon, who curled his finish around goalkeeper Unai Simón.

Four minutes later, England were ahead. Left-back Nico O’Reilly crossed from the left and Kane directed a header towards goal, with the ball taking a deflection off Spain defender Marc Cucurella before beating Simón.

England had the opportunity to extend their advantage early in the second half after Bellingham went down under Rodri’s challenge. The referee initially allowed play to continue but awarded a penalty following a VAR review. Kane slipped as he took the spot-kick and struck the crossbar.

The miss proved costly. In the 60th minute, England defender O’Reilly misplaced a pass outside his own area and Spain midfielder Dani Olmo immediately found Baena, who curled a low finish into the bottom corner to make it 2-2.

Spain completed the turnaround 14 minutes later. Baena controlled the ball between the lines before sending Oyarzabal behind the England defence, and the Spain forward calmly lifted his finish over Trafford.

England pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, with Bellingham forcing Simón into a late save from a tight angle, but Spain held on to open their Nations League campaign with a 3-2 victory.
