England 2-3 Spain: Oyarzabal seals dramatic win as world champions extend unbeaten run | OneFootball

England lost 3-2 to Spain in their UEFA Nations League opening game at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

Lamine Yamal broke the deadlock inside two minutes, dispossessing Marc Guehi, before slotting past the outstretched James Trafford.

Yamal’s strike was the third-quickest goal England have conceded at Wembley Stadium.

Ferran Torres thought he had doubled the visitors’ lead with a first-time finish from a precise cross, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Spain continued to threaten and looked to have opened England up before the half-hour mark when Yamal slipped Torres through, but the Paris Saint-Germain attacker dragged his effort wide.

Anthony Gordon drew the Three Lions level in the 36th minute, finishing off a counter-attack after receiving a pass from Jude Bellingham.

Shortly after, England completed the turnaround, with Nico O’Reilly chipping the ball to Harry Kane, whose shot deflected past Marc Cucurella and into the net.

The Three Lions started the second half on the front foot and nearly extended their lead when a whipped cross was delivered into the area, but Jarrel Quansah headed over.

England were awarded a penalty in the 52nd minute after Rodri brought down Bellingham. However, Kane failed to convert, with his penalty hitting the crossbar.

Kane’s penalty miss proved costly as Alex Baena levelled the scoring on the hour mark, side-footing the ball into the bottom corner after O’Reilly carelessly lost possession.

Baena’s line-splitting pass then found Mikel Oyarzabal, who chipped the ball over the onrushing Trafford, scoring the winning goal for Spain.

The world champions have now extended their winning streak to 39 games.

England will return to action on Tuesday when they take on Czechia at the Fortuna Arena.
