England can do one – Bandwagon in full swing

Well, just as I predicted, you can always rely on good old England to throw a cat among the pigeons.

I knew as soon as they lost against Spain in the Euros final (see photo above) that Gareth Southgate was a goner and that the ‘Eddie Howe for Old Blighty’ bandwagon would soon get into full swing.

I stated a couple of days ago that I wasn’t worried, as I didn’t think that Wor Eddie would be the FA’s first choice anyway.

Now after Eddie’s media interviews on Friday, everybody seems to have interpreted what he has said a little differently. Some thought it was generally positive, others have extracted some negatives to concentrate on.

Everybody’s entitled to an opinion.

I personally feel disappointed but not at all surprised, that this over-the-top speculation regarding our manager, is occurring only a month before the start of the new season.

I’ve never liked the England football set-up, although I support our cricket team and Team GB in the Olympics etc. I have never liked the people who run the Football Association, or even some of the administration and hierarchy within the PFA for that matter.

The FA think they have a God-given right to trample over everybody and anybody to get what they want. If they do want Eddie Howe, I believe we will have a major fight on our hands to keep him.

After my previous feel good article, forgive me for feeling a little bit cheesed off and annoyed at what is currently circulating in the media.

England and Newcastle United have never comfortably went hand in hand.

After Kevin Keegan resigned as England boss back in 2000, there was talk of Sir Bobby Robson taking the job on a temporary basis whilst still managing United.

It is my view that Bobby was flattered and tempted, but Toon Chairman Freddy Shepherd soon quickly put him in his place, told him where his priorities lay.

I wish that Ingurrlund would just quickly do one and keep away from our latest manager.

Eddie’s interviews yesterday only seem to have added to more intrigue and speculation.

There was a good point made in The Mag comments section which went something like this. “Usually a CEO and a DOF are in place at a club before a manager is duly appointed. Eddie Howe came before Darren Eales and Paul Mitchell at United, and maybe feels that he is the top dog etc.”.

It was a good and valid point but I don’t particularly believe it to be the case.

Paul Mitchell seems to be quite dynamic and it doesn’t look like this bloke is one to let the grass grow under his feet. Within his first two weeks he has already brought in James Bunce as Performance Director.

I could understand it if Eddie Howe has raised an eyebrow or two, but he must also realise what our starting position was in 2021, when he came to our ailing club.

We are playing catch-up in many more ways than the obvious and we are going to need Howe, Mitchell and Bunce to all be on the same page.

And that means right now. With a couple of good signings we’ll have got nearly everything in place to have a real go in 2024/25.

Just remember that ‘If the Kids are United, They will never be Divided’ (not that Howe, Eales, Mitchell and Bunce are bairns mind, they are consummate professionals that will be continually striving to improve us).

And unfortunately, as things currently stand, when it comes to creating disharmony and trying to destabilise Newcastle United, it seems as if ‘There’ll always be an England.’

Howay Wor management team, bring in some new signings soon, so that we can change the narrative and concentrate on our team and the good times that surely lie ahead.
