Hundreds of England supporters packed the Londoner on Mockingbird Lane in Dallas on Tuesday, gathering on the eve of the World Cup opener against Croatia at the AT&T Stadium in nearby Arlington.

"America's massive, it's so big, so vast. You don't have to ask, you don't have to look, you just know where we're going to be," said organiser John Gallivan, 39, who told the Press Association.

Fans in fancy dress unfurled a sea of St George’s flags and belted out familiar chants as the venue filled through the evening.

Police shut the party just before 10pm, with the venue at capacity and only two security guards on duty. Several vehicles arrived to clear the bar, while many supporters lingered on the balcony.

More than 5,000 beers were sold, including 2,352 bottles, with takings topping £30,000.

"I think the way FIFA have managed it, it's been disgraceful. We've been dealt a bad hand. We could have brought so many more out here, but sadly they've been outpriced."

"The night before every England game is what we're here for."
