England’s hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 quarter-finals have been given a significant boost with the Lionesses having defeated The Netherlands 4-0 in Zürich this evening.

Sarina Wiegman’s side were playing catch up following their 2-1 defeat to France on Matchday 1 but England delivered against the Dutch, hitting four goals without reply.

England broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when Alessia Russo played the ball to Lauren James and she expertly thumped a shot into the corner of the net.

It got better for the Lionesses just before the break when The Netherlands failed to clear the danger following a free-kick and Georgia Stanway rifled the ball home from 25 yards.

Russo thought that she had bagged England’s third just after the interval but VAR ruled the goal out for an offside.

The Lionesses did make it 3-0 soon after when the ball fell to James in the box and she made no mistake from 10 yards.

An Ella Toone strike capped-off the rout. The midfielder beat off a defender before drilling the ball beyond opposition goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar.

England will qualify for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 quarter-finals if they defeat Wales on Matchday 3. The Netherlands are likely to have to beat France.
