After the departure of Lea Schüller, the next prominent loss at FC Bayern Women is on the horizon. As reported by Sport BILD, goalkeeper Mala Grohs is set to leave the German champions in the winter. The 24-year-old is set to leave for England, although a specific destination club has not yet been named
Grohs moved to Munich from VfL Bochum in 2019 and developed into one of the most influential figures at Säbener Straße in recent years. She asserted herself between the posts, replaced Laura Benkarth and celebrated a total of four German championships with the Bayern women. She made club history with her heroine role in the 2023/24 DFB Cup semi-final, when she saved three penalty kicks in the penalty shoot-out against Eintracht Frankfurt

Grohs‘ career was abruptly interrupted in autumn 2024 when she was diagnosed with a tumor. FC Bayern responded with a strong signal and extended her contract early until 2026 – a clear commitment to the player and the person. Grohs successfully fought her way back, overcame the illness and celebrated her comeback with the Bayern women in March 2025
In sporting terms, however, her role changed after her return. Ena Mahmutovic made impressive use of her opportunity, impressing consistently and establishing herself as the new number one. Despite her qualities and merits, Grohs found herself in the role of the challenger – a situation that is likely to be difficult to satisfy in the long term
According to Sport BILD, this is precisely the reason why Grohs would like to play regularly again and actively shape her career. England is seen as an attractive destination, both in sporting and structural terms. The Women’s Super League offers a high level, international appeal and ambitious projects – factors that can be decisive for a goalkeeper of her stature
For FC Bayern, Grohs‘ departure would undoubtedly be emotional. She is a symbol of the development, stamina and sporting success of recent years. If the move does go ahead, the club will not only lose a top-class goalkeeper, but also a figure of identification. There are many indications that the two sides will part ways in the winter – with great respect on both sides.
