England’s stroll through World Cup qualifying continued with another assured win, this time a calm 2-0 over Serbia on a wet and fairly subdued night at Wembley.

With their place at next summer’s tournament already wrapped up, Thomas Tuchel used the occasion to tinker a bit and his side still looked comfortably in control.

Bukayo Saka put England in front after 28 minutes with a wonderfully measured volley, guiding the ball past Predrag Rajkovic after Serbia failed to clear their lines.

England dominated the ball after the break but didn’t always find the killer pass, and Serbia had a couple of half-chances.

Dusan Vlahovic flicked one wide and substitute Lazar Samardzic wasn’t far off with a strike of his own, but Jordan Pickford was rarely troubled as he notched yet another clean sheet - his tenth straight for the Three Lions.

Just when it looked like England would settle for a one-goal victory, the substitutes combined to add a bit of sparkle at the end.

Jude Bellingham won the ball high up the pitch, slipped it to Phil Foden, and the City man threaded through Eberechi Eze, who bent a gorgeous effort into the far corner in the final minute. A lovely finish and a fitting way to wrap things up.

The win brings England to 20 goals scored and none conceded in qualifying, while Serbia’s faint hopes of keeping their campaign alive vanished with the result. England now move on to Albania for their last qualifier of the year, looking every bit a side heading into the World Cup with confidence and rhythm.
