Bukayo Saka scored the opening goal of the game and his Arsenal team-mate Eberechi Eze sealed the win late on.

Thomas Tuchel’s side dominated much of the game and were worthy winners, finishing the match with nearly 70 per cent possession.

The victory means England have won all seven of their World Cup qualifiers without conceding a single goal.

Standard Sport’s Simon Collings was at Wembley to rate the England players...

Jordan Pickford 6

Another clean sheet for the goalkeeper and this was a comfortable night’s work. Serbia had one shot on target.

Reece James 7

Has the right-back spot in this team nailed down. So solid defensively and combined well with Saka going forward.

Ezri Konsa 6

Started for the fourth game in a row, with Marc Guehi out injured. Steady and did not really put a foot wrong.

John Stones 6

Typically cool and composed on the ball. Largely untroubled by Serbia’s attack and kept striker Dusan Vlahovic quiet.

Nico O’Reilly 7

Handed his debut and this was a promising performance. Got forward whenever he could and was a threat on the overlap.

Elliot Anderson 8

Remarkable to think he made his debut just two months ago, because the midfielder looks so at home in this team. Ran the show.

Declan Rice 7

A strong showing in the middle of the park as England bossed possession. Created a great chance for Harry Kane with an in-swinging corner.

Bukayo Saka 8 | Star player

Punctured an otherwise flat game with a wonderful finish. Caused Serbia problems when cutting in and was England’s best attacker.

Morgan Rogers 6

Kept his place in the team, even with the return of Jude Bellingham. Failed to hit the same heights he has recently in an England shirt.

Marcus Rashford 6

The odd bright moment, including one delightful nutmeg in the first half. Lacked end product, though.

Harry Kane 6

Linked the play fairly well and played a few sumptuous passes. Missed a great chance to make it 2-0 with an easy header.

Subs

Phil Foden (Kane 65’) 7

Thrown on up front as Tuchel experimented. Flashed a header wide and set up Eze for his goal. Lively.

Eberechi Eze (Rashford 65’) 8

Looked sharp out on the left flank as soon as he came on. Hit the crossbar and scored England’s second with a wonderful, curled finish.

Jordan Henderson (Rice 65’) 6

Came on and took the captain’s armband. Created a good chance for Foden with a lovely cross.

Jude Bellingham (Rogers 65’) 7

Played like a man with a point to prove. Got on the ball and gave England a spark.

Adam Wharton (Anderson 85’) N/A

Subs not used: Trafford, D. Henderson, Burn, Quansah, Spence, Chalobah, Bowen
