England Women got their World Cup qualifying campaign off to the perfect start with a 10-0 rout over Luxembourg Women.
Scorers: White 12′, 17′, Parris 27′, Greenwood 37′, 47′, Berscheid OG 61′, Bright 78′, 90′, Daly 90+2, England 90+4.
The Lionesses stormed into the lead after only 12 minutes when Lauren Hemp’s cross was met by the glancing header of Ellen White, who then added a second five minutes later with a low finish into the bottom corner after being played in by Fran Kirby.
It was then Nikita Parris’ turn to get in on the act, as she headed in Kirby’s corner to make it three.
Alex Greenwood was then the beneficiary of another Kirby corner, this time it was flicked into the path of the Manchester City defender who finished from the edge of the box.
The goals continued to come in the second half, with Greenwood getting a second via deflected shot from outside of the box.
Luxembourg didn’t help themselves for the sixth goal, putting it into the back of the net via their own players as Jessica Berscheid turned Beth Mead’s cross past her own goalkeeper, before centre-back Millie Bright added a seventh with her first goal for her country.
Bright got a taste for goalscoring as she headed in an eighth in the 90th minute, and there was even time for Rachel Daly to find the net before Beth England tapped home a Parris cross to make it a perfect ten for Sarina Wiegman’s side.
