England's World Cup 2026 build-up suffered another disruption when the squad were told to shelter during a tornado warning in Kansas City on Saturday, days before facing Croatia.

According to L'Équipe, the team, based in Kansas City, received an emergency alert shortly after 20:00 local time instructing them to take immediate cover. It comes after a nearby shooting, an earthquake felt in the area and the theft of some equipment.

A severe storm was forecast with destructive winds of up to 80 mph, with guidance warning that flying debris could be deadly and advising people to move to interior rooms away from windows.

Players remained inside their hotel in Prairie Village and the FIFA fan festival in Kansas City was closed as a precaution.

Neither the hotel nor England's training centre were affected, though the region endured heavy rain, lightning, thunder, strong gusts and power cuts. With the worst of the weather now past, England should be able to resume preparations for Wednesday's opener against Croatia at 22:00.
