England star sends ULTIMATE come and get me plea to Liverpool

Even though Saturday's loss to Crystal Palace had a respectable 2-1 scoreline, with the match winner coming in the 97th minute, Liverpool were comprehensively outplayed by the Eagles.

Oliver Glasner had drilled his side well and Liverpool fans' pre-game concerns that dropped points could be on the cards were proved to be more than fair across the 90 minutes. Seven big chances and 2.92xg was created against the Reds. It was a breathtaking onslaught if we're being honest.

A side plot to the contest was England defender Marc Guehi, who had been on the precipice of joining the club in the summer, before his move on deadline day was pulled at the very last minute.

His performance was really impressive and his reactions to the goals created quite a stir. Many will be hoping that he makes the switch from South London to Merseyside at the end of the season.

But there was another different England star that grabbed a lot of fans' attention with his performance, delivering a sort of 'come and get me plea' to Liverpool in his efforts for Palace.

Wharton is the real deal

21-year-old Adam Wharton is a player that most people will be aware of, given he's more than likely to play a key role for his country in the upcoming World Cup, despite his relative lack of experience.

In Glasner's 3-4-2-1 system, the midfielder plays a hybrid role as both a No. 6 and a No. 8. Against Liverpool, he showed off all of his attributes in a 62-minute appearance. It was a sight to behold.

Touching the ball just 30 times, with 15/22 accurate passes, he made four key passes, one accurate long-ball, created two big chances, had three successful dribbles, and won five of his eight duels.

His influence in game was clear for all to see, oozing composure on the ball whenever he received it.

Liverpool's midfield, however, struggled a lot more and were 'bullied' to an extent. Ryan Gravenberch held his own, as we've become accustomed to with him, but Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Florian Wirtz couldn't really match him. The Eagles overran the Reds with relative ease.

Arne Slot has said in the past that he sees Liverpool's players as each having a ÂŁ100m valuation, a claim he made when responding to a question about the cost of the club's summer transfer business.

In that context, you can see why a similar price tag has been put on Wharton's head. The reigning Premier League champions rarely lose and it often takes a standout performance to force a result.

On this occasion, the Englishman proved beyond all doubt that he has what it takes to succeed at Liverpool should the Reds see him as a potential recruit in future transfer windows, which is not off the cards when you consider he's been named in rumours linking him with the club recently.

To say that the Reds will look to splash ÂŁ100m on him after Saturday's performance is far-fetched, but his efforts were certainly noteworthy and he might well be considered in future transfer plans.
