Three Lions marched into next summer’s tournament without conceding a goal
England boss Thomas Tuchel believes his side will be ready to challenge for World Cup glory next summer.
Tuchel delivered on the first part of his job by securing their spot in North America with a flawless qualifying campaign, where Tuesday's 5-0 win over Latvia made it six wins from six matches, without conceding a goal.
Now, phase two will see them compete for the biggest prize in 2026 as Tuchel tries to become the man to end 60 years of hurt.
That is looking increasingly possible as performances have hit a stark upward trajectory in the last three matches and the German has vowed to travel to the other side of the Atlantic with a squad capable of challenging.
Asked if he believes he can deliver glory, the former Chelsea boss said: "Yes, it's a possibility. We will get there.
"I cannot promise that we will win it, but I feel that we will get there with a strong team and a strong cohesion and with the right spirit.
"I think it's building, and you can see it on the pitch, and this is the basis for all of it.
"I think the excitement will build. If it's bigger and bigger, I think it's the biggest tournament in the world."
England were the first European team to qualify but they will soon be joined by the likes of France, Spain and Portugal, with Argentina and Brazil also on the list of teams they will have to beat if they are to prosper.
Tuchel says the analysis of the top teams will begin now.
"I have my favourites, and we will start analysing the favourites very early, of course, because we think they will qualify," he said.
"There's a huge amount of support within the Football Association.
"There's a huge amount of support and quality within the FA. So everybody is on that because there's a machine running behind it.
"And of course, we will analyse right now actually, Brazil, Argentina, Spain, France, Portugal."
