Goals from Harvey Elliot, Omari Hutchinson and Jonathan Rowe proved to be the difference against Germany in the final of the UEFA Euro Under-21 Championship at the Štadión Tehelné pole.

Despite England’s 2-0 lead, Paul Nebel and Nelson Weiper’s goals levelled the score, but Jonathan Rowe’s header in extra-time was the pivotal moment.

Germany Under-21s fell to defeat for the first time in two years against Lee Carsley’s England.

In their fifth final in the tournament, England were crowned European champions once again.

As it happened

Harvey Elliott, yet again, showed his brilliance for England and fired The Young Lions Infront on the fifth minute when he neatly finished his effort into the bottom corner.

James McAtee was next to threaten the German defence when his effort flashed across the box. England had started with strength and style.

McAtee sprayed a similar cross to Stansfield, who was a touch behind the ball and failed to connect. The chances were coming thick and fast for The Young Lions.

It was Omari Hutchinson who doubled England’s lead in the 25th minute. McAtee’s flick set up the Ipswich Town forward, who’s strike was too quick for Noah Atubolu.

Weiper had the first chance for Germany, but failed to reduce the deficit when his header cleared the crossbar.

England were incredibly dangerous on the counter-attack and McAtee forced Atubolu into a low save in their quest for a third goal.

In a mirror image from when these two sides met in the group stage, Weiper’s bullet header found the bottom corner moments before the first half came to a close to halve the deficit.

After the interval, McAtee’s continued to shine and his strike was inches away from securing England a third goal.

Germany were advancing as the clock ticked on and managed to get back on level terms on the 60-minute mark.

Nebel’s ambitious strike found the top corner curled into the top corner, despite James Beadle’s best attempt at keeping it out.

The fixture became tight and tense after the equaliser. Nebel thought he had secured the winner in stoppage time, but his effort struck the crossbar.

With the result all square at full-time, the game went into extra-time.

Within two minutes of his entrance into the game, Tyler Morton’s cross was perfect for Rowe, who guided his header into the corner to give The Young Lions the lead.

Every minute felt like an hour for England and every player in white defended their box in numbers in extra-time.

Germany rattled the crossbar once again when Rocco Reitz’s strike deflected from the bar.

Despite the late pressure, Carsley’s side showed immense maturity in the final moments and successfully achieved back-to-back European Championships.
