England vs Andorra – Match preview and team news
Thomas Tuchel has named a 24-man squad for the fixture, featuring a blend of experienced internationals and exciting newcomers. Among the fresh faces are Tottenham’s Djed Spence and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, both rewarded for their outstanding starts to the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Additionally, AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah were late additions to the squad after Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton withdrew due to a groin injury sustained in training. John Stones has left the camp with a muscular issue.
Several key players are sidelined through injury, including, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, and Levi Colwill, while Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kyle Walker, and Jack Grealish were omitted. This mix signals Tuchel’s intent to balance squad freshness with tactical discipline as England look to secure top spot in the group.
On the tactical front, Tuchel is expected to deploy an attacking yet balanced 4-3-3 formation, with Declan Rice anchoring midfield alongside Jordan Henderson and Elliot Anderson, who could make his senior debut. Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford lead the frontline, aiming to add to England’s impressive tally of 11 goals in the qualifiers so far.
The Andorrans, under the management of Koldo Álvarez, have no major injury concerns ahead of this crucial Group K encounter.
Veteran goalkeeper Iker Álvarez retains his place between the sticks, providing experience and leadership from the back. While the team lacks the star power of England, they will look to defensive organization and quick counter-attacks to challenge the favorites.
Notably, 42-year-old forward Marc Pujol is absent from the squad, denying Andorra of one of their most experienced attacking outlets. Captain Marc Vales continues to lead the midfield effort, a vital presence in both defense and transition play.
Tuchel suffered his first defeat as England manager in the side’s last outing, a 3-1 friendly defeat to Senegal in June.
The team had been on a six-game winning streak prior to that, although in their most recent competitive fixture they could only narrowly beat Andorra in Barcelona. The dismal performance saw the players booed off the pitch at the interval and full-time.
Andorra has struggled to find momentum, losing all three of their Group K matches and conceding five goals without reply. Despite these difficulties, they will be motivated by the challenge to upset the higher-ranked English side and claim their first points in the campaign.
England: Pickford; James, Stones, Guehi, Livramento; Rice, Henderson, Anderson; Bowen, Kane, Rashford
Andorra: I. Álvarez; Llovera, Ramos, San Nicolás, Olivera; Borra, Rodrigo, Cervós; Garcia, López, Cervós
