Three Lions’ final pre-tournament friendly goes ahead an hour later than scheduled in Orlando
England are facing Costa Rica today in their final warm-up game ahead of the World Cup. Kick-off in Wednesday night’s clash was delayed by an hour after fierce thunderstorms hit Orlando and left the playing surface at Inter&Co Stadium submerged in water. But thankfully the torrential rain relented and lightning ceased to allow the match to begin after the pitch drained quickly, with fans allowed back into the venue.
Jude Bellingham started over Morgan Rogers at No10 for England in Thomas Tuchel’s biggest selection call, seven days out from the Group L opener against Croatia in Dallas. Arsenal duo Declan Rice and Noni Madueke both started after joining up with the squad late following the Champions League final, with Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze on the bench. Tuchel admitted fitness concerns over Saka on the eve of the game, owing to a lingering Achilles injury that has seen him play through the pain barrier.
After edging past New Zealand 1-0 with two different XIs on Saturday, the Three Lions will be hoping for a more emphatic result tonight to send a message to their World Cup rivals. Follow England vs Costa Rica live below!
