Thomas Tuchel is expected to largely keep with what he knows

England may be forced into changes for tonight’s clash against Czech Republic, with Arsenal defender Ezri Konsa and Manchester City full-back Nico O’Reilly considered doubts.

England head to Prague for the second match of their Nations League campaign under pressure for victory, having fallen to a 3-2 home defeat to world champions Spain in their opener on Saturday.

Tuchel’s men will be expected to get back to winning ways when they face the Czechs, who lost 2-1 to Croatia in their own first game of the Nations League.

Konsa and O’Reilly were following their own individualised training programmes at Tottenham’s training ground on Monday and it remains to be seen whether they will be passed fit in time to feature.

Tuchel could not provide a clearer indication of the fitness of the two defenders when he spoke from Prague in his pre-match press conference on Monday evening, saying he is still “not sure” whether Konsa or O’Reilly would be passed fit in order to play. Lewis Hall also spoke at the press conference, suggesting he is in line to start.

The remaining 22 members of the squad were in group training as normal on Monday before their afternoon flight to Prague and are fit for the game.

James Trafford will once again start in goal when England visit the Czechs, before Jordan Pickford comes back into the team for the final two matches of this international break.

Tuchel must decide whether to stick with Jarell Quansah at right-back or whether Prague is the right time to reintegrate Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

At left-back, Lewis Hall could come in if O’Reilly is unable to play due to an injury concern.

Myles Lewis-Skelly partnered Elliot Anderson in midfield against Spain but Tuchel has other options, including James Garner or handing a debut to Bournemouth’s Alex Scott.

Harry Kane will be keen to get back on the scoresheet after missing a penalty against Spain with a slip and a double-kick.

The performances of Jude Bellingham and Anthony Gordon will have impressed Tuchel and the German may find it difficult to drop either to the bench.

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Arsenal’s Declan Rice were joined by Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo and Tino Livramento in all withdrawing from the squad last month due to a mixture of injury and load management.
