The 23-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season after the Blues opted against activating an option to extend his deal.

Sterling has agreed to move to Rangers despite receiving several offers from other clubs.

Light Blues manager Michael Beale played a major role in luring the Englishman to Ibrox.

Rangers need reinforcements after Celtic dominated the domestic scene this season.

Sterling brings plenty of experience to the table and will be a solid addition to the Gers’ backline.

The Chelsea academy graduate spent this term on loan with English Championship club Stoke City, featuring 26 times.

He was at Blackpool, Wigan Athletic and Coventry City over the last three seasons, making 75 appearances across the loan spells.

The former England youth international made three senior appearances for Chelsea and will hope to prove himself at Rangers.

Sterling could finally get the chance to play Champions League football at the Scottish club.

The Gers will play in the qualifiers for the group stages of the elite European competition after missing out on the league title.

Rangers can still play continental football even if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

They could end up playing in the Europa League or Europa Conference League, and the chance to play in such a competition attracted Sterling.

His versatility will come in handy at the club, and Beale could do with such a player.

Sterling can play at right-back, left-back and centre-back, and landing him for free would be huge.
