This season is shaping up to be one of the most unique in the history of English football.

With Manchester City (Community Shield), Newcastle (League Cup), Crystal Palace (FA Cup), and Liverpool (Premier League) all securing domestic honours, there are already four different winners across England's major competitions.

But it doesn’t stop there. Tonight’s UEFA Europa League final between Tottenham and Manchester United guarantees that at least five different English clubs will lift silverware this season.

Only three other seasons in history have seen five clubs from England win a trophy:

  • 2012/13 - Manchester United (Premier League), Wigan Athletic (FA Cup), Swansea City (League Cup), Manchester City (Community Shield), Chelsea (Europa League)
  • 1971/72 - Derby County (First Division), Leeds United (FA Cup), Stoke City (League Cup), Leicester City (Community Shield), Tottenham Hotspur (UEFA Cup)
  • 1962/63 - Everton (First Division), Manchester United (FA Cup), Birmingham City (League Cup), West Ham United (Community Shield), Tottenham Hotspur (Cup Winners’ Cup)

But this season could raise the bar even higher.

Chelsea are gearing up for the UEFA Europa Conference League final against Real Betis on Friday, 28 May - and if they lift the trophy, it’ll be the first time ever that six different English clubs have won major silverware in a single season.
