Enzo Fernandez has heaped praise on Marc Cucurella and believes it’s important to have a defender of his quality in the team.

Cucurella was named man of the match in the win against Barcelona, and he did a brilliant job in keeping Lamine Yamal quiet.

The Spain international has been in superb form this season, and is without doubt one of Chelsea’s most important players.

Enzo Fernandez praises Marc Cucurella

Cucurella is arguably the best left back in the world at this current point, and will face another tough task against Bukayo Saka on Sunday.

Despite no official announcement from the club it’s believed Cucurella has signed an improved contract, which is richly deserved.

Wayne Rooney was full of praise for Cucurella after his performance against Barcelona, and it was arguably one of his best in a Chelsea shirt.

It’s arguable Cucurella is on par with Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer in regards to importance to the team, and Fernandez was full of praise for the 27-year-old.

“Obviously, Marc is a beast,” he told Chelsea’s official website.

“Having a team-mate like him around day-to-day is very special, he’s very funny and always in a good mood.

“Aside from that, he trains very well, always wants to improve and for us, it’s very important to have a defender of his quality.”

Chelsea face tough Arsenal clash

Having done a brilliant job on Tuesday evening against Barcelona, the visit of Arsenal this weekend is another tough challenge.

Cucurella will need to be at his best if the Blues are to get anything from the game, and record a first win over Arsenal since 2021.

Chelsea are currently six points behind the Gunners, but a win would cut the gap in half, and put the Blues right in the title picture heading into the busy festive period.

It’s Chelsea’s toughest test so far, but certainly one they can win, and they’ve proven they can turn up and get results in the big games.
