Manchester City’s new £125m signing Enzo Fernandez has been left out of Enzo Maresca’s four-man leadership group despite his captaincy background at Chelsea.

As reported by Goal.com, the manager said the hierarchy is already set, naming Ruben Dias, Erling Haaland, Marc Guehi and Gianluigi Donnarumma in the leadership group.

Fernandez joined on deadline day on a five-year deal and said he had long aspired to join a club of City’s size. Any immediate leadership ambitions are on hold.

The reshaped leadership unit comes after the departures of Rodri and Bernardo Silva. Dias and Haaland offer continuity, while Guehi and Donnarumma are newer voices.

The omission is notable given Fernandez captained Chelsea 57 times across three years, including 43 matches under Maresca.

Maresca said the squad were eager for his arrival and described him as a winner welcomed by team-mates. He added the 25-year-old is ready to make his debut this weekend, with City facing Coventry City in the Premier League.
