Enzo Fernández is close to leaving Chelsea for Manchester City in a deal worth about 140 million euros. According to Sky Sports, he will become a City player and is expected in Manchester within hours, after intense negotiations between the clubs reached agreement.
The fee would be the biggest transfer of this summer window and among the largest in football history.
He is viewed as a key figure for a City side now led by Enzo Maresca, the coach under whom he impressed at Chelsea. The Argentina international is also seen as a successor to Rodri, now at Barcelona.
The move could spark a domino effect. Chelsea are expected to move for Manu Koné of Roma for about 50 million euros, and if that happens Jamie Gittens could head to Italy.
Fernández has 31 goals and 29 assists in 170 Chelsea appearances, wearing the number eight shirt.
He previously played 20 times for Benfica, 17 in the league and three in the Taça de Portugal, scoring two and providing five assists.
