Enzo Maresca has said the Manchester City squad are delighted with the addition of 'winner' Enzo Fernandez to the squad.

Fernandezcompleted his £125m club-record move to Manchester City from Chelsea on deadline day, and has signed a long-term contract at the Etihad.

Maresca knows the Argentina international well, having worked with Fernandez during his time at Chelsea.

He said the 25-year-old is a player that 'knows how to win' and said the City squad have been excited by his arrival. Fernandez could make his Manchester City debut against Coventry City this weekend

“Enzo is ready, yes,” Maresca said in hispress conference.

“I know Enzo quite well and I know what he can bring to the team. He is a winner, with a winner’s mentality and knows how to win. The World Cup, Club World Cup... the main thing is he’s a winner.

“He’s a winner. When you belong to a squad and another winner arrives, they are always happy.

“I can promise you that in the last five days, four or five players came to ask is he coming or not. It’s very important he’s with us.”

Fernandez captained Chelsea on occasion during Maresca's time at Stamford Bridge, but the Italian said the new signing will not be promoted immediately into the club's leadership group.

"No, the captain is Ruben [Dias], Erling [Haaland], Marc Guehi and Gianluigi Donnarumma," he added.
