Enzo Maresca has confirmed Chelsea want to sign a new winger this summer.

The Blues are light on attacking options out wide after deciding not to turn Jadon Sancho’s loan move from Manchester United into a permanent deal.

Chelsea are also without Mykhailo Mudryk following his provisional ban for allegedly testing positive for a banned substance.

It means Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto and Tyrique George are the only out-and-out wingers available to Maresca, and the Chelsea boss wants to address that this summer.

Chelsea have targeted a move for Jamie Gittens and last week had a £42million bid rejected for the Borussia Dortmund star.

“Jadon is not with us, so for sure that is a position that probably we need to do something,” said Maresca ahead of Chelsea’s Club World Cup opener against LAFC on Monday.

“Also, because as you already know, Misha is not with us. So in this moment we have Noni, Pedro and Ty as proper wingers.

“So, for sure, something is going to happen. We said many times, when the transfer window is open, anything can happen - to bring players or to sell players. We will see.”

Chelsea also tried to sign France goalkeeper Mike Maignan last week but were unable to agree a fee with AC Milan.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea will return for the 29-year-old this summer, but Maresca appears to be relaxed about the situation.

The Chelsea boss has confirmed Robert Sanchez is the first-choice goalkeeper, with Filip Jorgensen his back-up.

Mike Penders, who has joined from Genk for £17million, is also part of the squad at the Club World Cup.

“The situation about the goalkeepers is quite easy for me, quite simple,” said Maresca.

“Robert is the No1, then we have Filip that is the No2. Penders joined us, we are going to see [him] in the next weeks. We have time to analyse and to judge him. Then we are going to take a final decision.

“Then for the rest, or Maignan or different players, they are not with us and they are with other clubs. I don’t think it is worth it to take about them.”
