Enzo Maresca has moved quickly to quash suggestions of a rift with Nicolas Jackson (24), despite the striker’s sudden departure from Chelsea to Bayern Munich on loan last month.

Jackson, who could face his parent club in Wednesday’s Champions League tie at the Allianz Arena, has been the subject of speculation after a turbulent spell at Stamford Bridge. The Senegal international endured disciplinary issues last season, receiving two red cards in quick succession against Newcastle and another dismissal during the Club World Cup against Flamengo.

Yet Maresca, speaking to the media and transcribed by Sky Sports, insisted there is no ill feeling. “I’m grateful to Nico because when we achieved what we achieved last year, it was thanks to all the players, including him,” the Chelsea head coach said. “I texted him after he left, thanking him for his contribution and wishing him well. He’s a good guy, a good professional who worked well with us.”

The Italian acknowledged Bayern may benefit from Jackson’s inside knowledge of Chelsea’s methods, but downplayed the potential impact. “It can probably be a small advantage for Bayern Munich, because Nicolas knows how we prepare for games,” he added. “But that doesn’t change anything for us.”
