Enzo Maresca on James Trafford amid Leeds interest, says anything can happen | OneFootball

Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca addressed James Traffords situation amid Leeds Uniteds pursuit of a new goalkeeper.

Leeds remain in talks over a deal for Trafford, their number one target for Elland Road. The keeper came through Citys academy when Maresca coached the Under-23s, then joined Burnley in July 2023 for 3m.

City activated a buy-back clause last summer for 31m after his strong spell with the Clarets, but Trafford had limited game time behind new first-choice Gianluigi Donnarumma.

"I know James because he was my keeper when I was with the Under-23s, so I know James very good," said Maresca, as quoted by City Xtra.

"But again, when the transfer window is open, now or in January, anything can happen. So we’ll see, but at the moment he’s one of our keepers."

Traffords next step was always likely to be decided after this summers World Cup. Maresca fielded the question during his introductory press conference, with City moving on after Pep Guardiolas departure at the end of last season.
