Manchester City have appointed Enzo Maresca as head coach to replace Pep Guardiola, the club confirmed on Monday.

The 46-year-old has signed a three-year contract, running to 2029, and returns to the club after leaving Chelsea in January.

Maresca previously worked as Guardiola’s assistant in 2022-23, the season in which City won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble.

He has spoken of understanding the demands and expectations around this team, praising a set-up he views as innovative, well prepared and purposeful, and describing the role as a dream job that provides the consistency to work effectively.

He follows Guardiola, who lifted 20 trophies during a decade in charge, leaving a sizeable void in Manchester.

Since moving into management, Maresca led Leicester back to the Premier League in 2024, and won the Club World Cup and Europa Conference League with Chelsea.
