Enzo Maresca also confirms Omar Marmoush exit is close

It has been a summer of change at the Etihad Stadium following the exit of legendary manager Pep Guardiola.

John Stones, Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji, Tijjani Reijnders, James Trafford, Savio and Nico Gonzalez have all left, with more departures expected before transfer Deadline Day.

Among those is Omar Marmoush with Tottenham agreeing a deal to sign the Egypt international on a season-long loan deal, which Standard Sport understands includes an obligation to buy worth an initial £50million with £5m in guaranteed add-ons and a further £5m in additional add-ons.

Marmoush was booked in for a Spurs medical on Wednesday and Maresca admits the transfer should be confirmed imminently.

“Omar is set to leave, but it’s not done yet,” the Man City boss said in the pre-Crystal Palace press conference.

Jack Grealish has also been linked with a loan move to Sunderland, while it is widely expected that Man City will make a bid for Fernandez before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Although, Maresca did not discuss the Argentine, he may have dropped a hint by revealing he wants to add some leaders to his squad before the window closes.

“We have experienced players, for sure we have leaders,” he added. “Now we need to wait 4-5 days for when the transfer window closes also to see if we can add one or two more captains to Ruben [Dias] and Erling [Haaland], at the moment they are the two captains.

Under Maresca, Fernandez was appointed Chelsea vice-captain as he wore the armband whenever Reece James was absent and is clearly viewed as a leader.

Man City did confirm the signing of Ayyoub Bouaddi on Wednesday, though Maresca insists no further incomings are close to completion at the moment.
