After last night’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, Chelsea have now only managed one win in their last seven games. Their awful recent form has heaped pressure onto head coach Enzo Maresca.
The Italian is in his second season in charge after making the switch from Leicester City in the summer of 2024.
After securing Champions League qualification and winning the Europa Conference League in his first season, progress has stagnated this term.
With the amount of money spent, Chelsea are expected to be challenging in title races but last night’s draw leaves them 15 points behind league-leaders Arsenal at the halfway point of the campaign.
Former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood spoke exclusively to EPL Index and shared his thoughts on Maresca’s future…
With away trips to Manchester City and Fulham, it’s not looking easy for Maresca and Sherwood believes time might be running out.
“No, I don’t think he will be there next season,” said Sherwood, “I don’t think he has done a bad job but once you come out talking about those powerful owners, it’s hard.”

“If that job became available, there would be a queue around the block. Everyone wants to manage Chelsea,” continued Sherwood, “He needs to win something this year for him to become un-sackable because he’s not going to be in the Champions League next season and the Carabao Cup might not be enough.”
“Now we’re talking about him potentially going to Man City. The whole thing feels choreographed by the people close to Maresca and I struggle to see him there next season,” finished Sherwood.
Over recent weeks, there has been growing speculation around Pep Guardiola’s future at Man City. Despite being under contract for another 18 months, some reports have claimed that he could be set to leave in the summer.
Enzo Maresca is reportedly one of the options to replace Guardiola at the Etihad, alongside the likes of Vincent Kompany.
It’ll be interesting to see how the timing of any of these moves impact each other. But for now, Chelsea are stuck in a rut and need a way out as soon as possible.
